The Early Childhood Connection
Shaneilia Brown (B. Ed., Ed. M.)
Certified Early Childhood Practitioner
I am an Early Childhood practitioner with over 10 years of experience in the field. I graduated The Mico University College with my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education then went on to pursue my Master of Arts Education with concentration on Early Childhood Education at Grand Canyon University. I have been awarded Educator of the year by the State of New Jersey along with many other professional accolades awarded by the East Orange School District. I have worked with children and their families successfully over the years to create plans, strategies, and instruction to better aid in their cognitive, socio-emotional, linguistic, and physical development.
I believe the field of Early Childhood Education is important as it is foundational and equips young children with the skills necessary to be successful adults. My goal is to help families understand this importance of this stage of a child's life and guide them into cultivating the best learning, growth, and developmental experience. Early Childhood Education is the most important stage of a child’s life as it requires the strongest foundation, an effective team, external support, appropriate materials, time, and an environment that is nurturing and conducive to growth and learning.
My Philosophy
I believe the early years of a child’s life are the most crucial as learning is happening all the time. This ongoing learning encompasses all the different domains of development. My philosophy is based on the teachings that mirrors that of a progressivist as I believe in teaching ideas that are everlasting as children learn by doing, given the right opportunities. Children have the natural capacity to learn and at The Early Childhood Connection, we equip families with the most appropriate program, resources, tools, and instruction to cater to the whole child. “Every child can learn; every child must learn” quoted by George Evans explains that every child can learn, just not on the same day or in the same way. Understandably, it’s not that children don’t want to learn but rather that they aren’t being taught in a way that they can learn. This is the basis of my philosophy of education as I believe that children can learn given the most effective methods, tools, resources, and opportunities. To provide this as an educator, I understand that all children are different, learn differently, are from different backgrounds, and will require a different approach. Every child is unique and has their own learning styles and temperament according to theories of Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky. The purpose of education is to gain skills and knowledge that when acquired enable one to become a successful member of society. The teaching and learning process is not one size fits all and to guarantee the purpose of education is fulfilled, the role of the teachers, families, the school body, and other stakeholders is to make sure they provide opportunities that helps young children grow.
